Whispers of Catharsis: An Intimate Journey Through Art

A Solo Exhibition by Dr. Soumitra Chakravarty
Dates: 16th – 18th September 2025
Venue: Kala Srot Art Gallery, Aliganj, Lucknow

Lucknow: Dr. Soumitra Chakravarty’s upcoming solo exhibition, Whispers of Catharsis: An Intimate Journey Through Art, offers audiences an evocative exploration of solitude, resilience, and human connection. Featuring over 40 original oil paintings, selected digital works, and collaborative pieces with his daughter, the exhibition reflects decades of artistic pursuit.

Art is life. For Dr. Chakravarty, painting has been a lifelong practice, beginning in childhood and continuing alongside his journey as a physician and educator. Mostly self-taught as a painter and photographer, he creates not from formal technique but from a deeply intuitive engagement with colour, form, and emotion.
“Your interpretation of my art is more valuable to me than what was in my mind when I painted it,” he says. “Through these works, I wish to connect with you.”
The works on display span signature series such as:

• The Mystic River series – meditations on memory, longing, and timeless flows of existence.
• Walk Alone trilogy – inspired by Tagore’s Akla Cholo Re, embodying the courage of solitary journeys through shifting seasons.

• The Tree of Life – a radiant symbol of hope and renewal, and one of the artist’s most beloved works.
Through these and other pieces, viewers encounter both symbolic universes and intimate emotions, ranging from catharsis and melancholy to the joy of transcendence.
Introducing ‘Hia Chakravarty’. Alongside these, Hia’s works bring youthful vision and a fresh sensitivity, reminding viewers of the continuity of creativity between generations. She is a tremendous artist and a wonderful soul!
